Minecraft PE was released in August 2011, and interest has been gaining ever since. Judging by the Google search interest, Minecraft Pocket Edition is clearly more popular then ever before.
Clearly, there’s huge interest in MCPE, especially with 0.12.1 approaching quickly. It’s interesting seeing where the spikes correlate with the history of MCPE updates.
There’s a huge spike in July 2014, which makes sense- that’s when we experienced the huge release of 0.9.0. For those who don’t remember, that’s update when we got infinite worlds and PC generation.
Before that, the interest in Pocket Edition really rose again when we saw the release of 0.8.0, around December 2013. Looks like interest had been falling before Tommaso joined the team and added awesome features like breeding and minecarts. You can see the full changelog for that update here.
The release before 0.8.0 seems to have been just as interesting. 0.7.0 was released in June 2013. 0.7.0 was pretty awesome, mostly because of the (now disabled) Pocket Realms, Mojang’s premium server service. (Fingers are still crossed that will return soon!)
From MCPE 0.1.0’s first ever release on the Xperia Play in August 2011, it really took a while for the game to finally kick off. Hopefully with 0.12.0 approaching, and maybe even 1.0.0 nearing, interest will grow even greater.
