After a long wait, Minecraft is now out for the Nintendo Wii U, selling for $29.99 on the eShop.
This version is made by 4J Studios, so is a port of the console version played on Playstations and Xboxes. Wii U Edition stands at 1.6.4 compared to the console releases, but will be updated to sync up with other platform versions.
Wii U Edition will also have off-TV play, meaning that you can continue playing Minecraft on your gamepad like MCPE when the TV is being used for other things.
It’s been 3 years since the Wii U was released, so it’s been quite a wait for this version. Notch never expressed much interest in bringing Minecraft to the Wii U, but with Microsoft’s successful recent attempts to expand Minecraft’s presence, with Minecraft coming to Oculus, Hololens, Windows Phone, and more.
I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we've got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo.
