Recently Mojang unveiled support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, allowing anyone to play Minecraft Windows 10 Edition in VR. It took a whole year to get to this point, as the plans to add virtual reality were announced last September. To promote this huge new feature, Mojang shared this new video to explain the creation of Minecraft for Oculus Rift.
The video, which you can watch above, shows off their design and development process. It also shows off a whole lot of cool virtual reality gameplay, with cameos from our favourite developers.
The Oculus Rift support is built straight into Windows 10 Edition, so if you’ve already bought the game, you don’t need to pay for anything.
A long time coming
Minecraft wasn’t alway going to come to the Oculus Rift. In 2014, Notch tweeted he didn’t want to partner up with Oculus after they were bought by Facebook. Obviously, Microsoft has a different perspective. After Microsoft bought Minecraft, so many new ways to play the game have been introduced. Last year, Microsoft unveiled Minecraft on HoloLens, and now Minecraft comes to true virtual reality.
